Importance of Career

     The importance of having a Career Goal. A career goal helps you focus on what you want to do for a living. A career goal can be a specific job you want to do - such as doctor, teacher or engineer - or a career goal can be a particular field you want to work in, such as IT, Education etc. Rather than limiting your future, a career goal may help you discover career opportunities that you wouldn't have thought of otherwise. There are several job opportunities with any chosen career. For instance, if you choose a medicine as career, you may want to be a scientist, a nurse or a doctor. A career goal will also guide you into doing what you want with your life - rather than just drifting into a job. Generally, a career goal in based on your skills and interests, career possibilities, and job trends. Once you have chosen a career, think strategically about the steps to accomplish your goal.

     Once you have determined your skills, strengths, and interests, you can use various tools to explore and identify the career areas that "fit" your profile. The following aspects also to considered-

1.Traits or skills that are required.
2.Aspects of the previous jobs you liked and disliked.
3.Training you've had that can be applied to future jobs.
4.Your willingness to relocate or work other than a normal work shift.
5.Personal time and effort you are willing to commit to preparing for career advancement.
6.Specific areas of your performance appraisals that have been rated above or below satisfactory.
7.Skills you have developed through education, jobs, hobbies, volunteer work, clubs, employee organizations, and the like.

People in fields that interest you

     An excellent way to research a career field is to talk with individuals who are working in that field. Most people are happy to talk about the kind of work they do, and people who are performing the job can often provide you a more realistic description of what the job is really like. Explain that you are exploring your career options and are considering their field as a possible career. Ask them for an honest assessment of their job, such as the pros and cons of the work, the most rewarding features, and the most frustrating aspects.
